Ask for the participation category
Request explicit confirmation of whether fellows operate independently, operate under supervision, assist, observe or participate only in research.
Separate exposure from responsibility
Case volume and subspecialty breadth describe the service, not necessarily the fellow’s personal operative role.
Verify credentialing
Ask which regulator, hospital committee and supervisor approve clinical privileges, and whether international applicants follow a different pathway.
